In work, err on the side of communicating frequently and openly. Especially to the leadership projects you’re working on.
This is Important because I find many people are too nervous or insecure to ask to be more in the loop. They are worried about not being “in the know”, but don’t ask. (Possibly because they don’t know how to ask, they’re afraid of being rejected, or they’re just busy).
If you have a posture of “oh you didn’t ask to know more, so I didn’t tell you more” — when they eventually feel really out of the loop, that won’t be fun — it just won’t work with some managers.
The converse is a sign of a good manager: someone who asks for more communication and in the way that works for them.
